The Opportunity This position works out of our Abbott Park, IL location in the Transfusion Medicine Division. Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics around the globe. The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments and informatics systems are often the first step in patient care decision making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers. The Laboratory Operations Specialist plays a key role in supporting the on-market product technical support team by executing and overseeing daily lab support workflows such as sample handling, inventory coordination, and glassware management. In addition to these essential operational duties, the role also leads process improvements and small-scale projects that enhance lab efficiency, compliance, and readiness—ensuring a high-functioning environment for research teams. The role will also provide platform testing support for characterization, investigational, and design verification studies. What You’ll Work On Perform and oversee routine lab support activities including technical support sample receiving, labeling, and distribution; PPE and glassware collection and sanitation; and inventory management to ensure uninterrupted lab workflows. Identify and implement improvements to lab support systems and workflows to enhance efficiency, safety, and compliance. Contribute to or lead small-scale projects that support lab readiness, such as space planning, equipment coordination, or digital tracking tools. Maintain accurate records, SOPs, and documentation related to sample handling, inventory, and lab support processes; support audit readiness and filing relevant documentation with Corporate Records. Serve as a point of contact for lab teams and support functions to ensure smooth daily operations and alignment on priorities. Execute platform testing (e.g., Alinity s) in support of characterization, investigational, and/ or design verification studies. Required Qualifications Associate's degree or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. 1-year minimum of related lab/relevant experience. Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated proficiency in standard laboratory equipment. Demonstration of exceptional organization skills, documentation, and record keeping. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel; demonstrated intermediate skills. Demonstrated experience in learning new lab technologies. Previous hands-on experience with serology testing platforms or other automated, high throughput testing platforms is preferred. Basic computer proficiency. Ability to quickly learn new computer systems. Experience in electronic data management systems is a plus but not required.
