Description Job Summary: The employee must be proficient in venipuncture and clerical skills. The clerical skills apply to computers, fax machines, telephone, scanners as well as any other non-technical devices used in the laboratory. The employee must also have a general knowledge of the work performed in the laboratory and the urgency of reporting results. Duties and Responsibilities: Properly identifies patients prior to collecting specimens Performs venipuncture or heel sticks/finger sticks on patients as needed. Follows proper tube order of draw as described in phlebotomy procedure. Collects urine specimen from clinical patient and for employment related drug screens. Prepares specimens for sent outs or to be run in the laboratory. Places orders in CPSI or reference laboratory systems as required. Manages the blood collection supplies and keeps draw station stocked. Maintains a clean work area. Performs clerical duties as needed. Assists with cleaning as directed. Resolves unusual tests order with lab staff prior to collecting specimens. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Education: High School Diploma. Phlebotomy Certification Experience: Minimum 6 months experience in blood sample collection.1 year of experience Skills: Phlebotomy, clerical skills Knowledge: Specific knowledge of the human body related to venipuncture safety Abilities: Must be able to perform blood collection on patients of all ages OSHA Categories: Category I - Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue Physical Requirements Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
