The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is currently seeking a Cancer Biology Laboratory Research Specialist for the Department of Pharmacology. Under direct supervision, the selected candidate will work on NIH and ofther funded projects related to pancreatic cancer metastasis. The goal of the laboratory is to gain a deeper understanding of mechanistic adaptations unique to metastatic pancreatic cancer cells. The lab engages in several Cancer Cell Biology approaches including in vivo tumor cell injections and tumor imaging, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence on mouse and human tumor tissue specimens, tumor sphere and organoid culture, and gene expression profiling.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry or field of study related to the research of the laboratory.
Experience: Three (3) years of experience including two (2) years in the relevant research specialization.
Other: May require training related to occupational safety and health, environmental compliance, shipping of hazardous materials and/or ionizing radiation.
Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience. In instances where specific education and/or experience is required only directly related education and/or experience may be substituted.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITIES
Ability to understand and utilize scientific/medical terminology and research theory in both oral and written communications. Ability to understand and apply approved guidelines of varying research protocols. Knowledge of best practice in research protocols and procedures. Ability to use measurable and verifiable information for making decisions or judgements. Excellent organizational and project management skills.
HIRING RANGE: $64,000 - $65,000 per year (Commensurate with education and experience)
