Schedule: Full Time / Shift: Days Location: 2100 Ocoee Apopka Road, Apopka, FL 32703 The community you’ll be caring for: AdventHealth Apopka AdventHealth Apopka is a seven-story, 120-bed hospital offering an extensive range of services including expanded surgical services, advanced surgical suites and a catheterization lab The hospital also features a 30,000-square-foot emergency department with pediatric-friendly beds, imaging services, a full-service cafeteria, chapel, gift shop and on-site fire station The hospital opened in December 2017, replacing the 50-bed hospital that AdventHealth had operated in downtown Apopka for more than four decades The role you’ll contribute: Manages, designs, assigns and supports staff in all aspects of lab support activities. Responsible for managing assigned selected aspects of laboratory processes or shifts, which may include workflow, quality assurance initiatives, performance improvement activities, training of new employees, advanced problem solving for customers and coworkers, department equipment or computer maintenance and upgrades. Manages department staffing, including interviewing replacement staff members as appropriate, ensuring appropriate orientation of new employees, ongoing training, coaching, mentoring and documented competency assessment, acts as a proficient resource for all departmental tasks and training. Performs complex problem solving for customers and staff, selection and ordering of select department supplies. Writes and reviews procedures and processes. Operates area or department within approved departmental operation and capital budgets. Meets departmental goals to support service, clinical, team, financial and market metrics. Completes system and campus priorities supporting Affordable, Connected and Excellence in Patient Care. Works with AdventHealth Laboratory System Teams to make decisions in areas where systematic approaches are necessary. The value you’ll bring to the team: Works with vendors to ensure necessary supply availability and maintains technologies aligned with industry practices. Develops ongoing quality assessment activities to ensure compliance with regulatory and governmental requirements. Leads and participates in laboratory performance improvement activities, promoting team building, employee engagement, patient satisfaction, and safety. May include transport of hazardous waste from the point of generation to a designated secure storage area; employee will be required to complete initial training (prior to handling hazardous waste) and refresher training to include proper handling and transport of hazardous waste, and proper selection, use and disposal of personal protective equipment. Follows safety policies including the use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling, and completes required training for handling hazardous waste. Other duties as assigned. Monitors and manages daily operations for laboratory support services and oversees support staff. Actively participates in laboratory and hospital performance improvement activities, including evaluating new equipment or procedures, preparing and reviewing staff quality and efficiency reports, and monitoring staff performance. Provides guidance to lab support staff for resolving customer service issues and supports education for clinical staff as needed. Facilitates workflow when necessary to ensure smooth operations. Coordinates and facilitates the clinical experience of students in affiliated education programs.
