Description

SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for support of various laboratory functions. The duties of this position represent routine procedures that are carried out independently.

TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

High school diploma or equivalent.
Prior laboratory related experience is a plus but not a requirement.
Training on the job is provided.

OTHER KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Good organizational skills
  • Good verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail and teamwork are key

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

The physical demands outlined are representative of those that are required by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:

  • Mobility to work in a lab and office setting
  • Use of standard office and lab equipment and stamina to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects

Work is performed in a laboratory setting which is subject to chemicals, and potential fumes, gasses, noxious odors and related items typical for this environment.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO, THE FOLLOWING:

  • Conducts all activities in a safe and efficient manner
  • Demonstrates and supports GEL’s core values
  • Conducts basic procedures that support other operations in the laboratory
  • Prepares lab ware for procedures
  • Prepares containers for sampling with proper preservation and shipping protocols
  • Performs login, sample management and disposal operations
  • Performs standard operating procedures (e.g. aliquoting and digestions)
  • Performs data entry activities
  • Operates basic laboratory instrumentation and equipment
  • Follows written and verbal instructions
  • Performs other duties as assigned
