The Opportunity:
This role is multi-disciplinary and underpins the laboratory support operations. The Laboratory Technicians role directly and indirectly supports scientists across R&D functions allowing scientists to concentrate on their core role. This role is to be primarily lab-based focusing on the delivery of scientific technical support to the R&D laboratories in accordance with Health and Safety and Good Laboratory Standards requirements. This exciting opportunity would ideally suit an individual who seeks a science based role with the opportunity for wider cross-functional working and career progression within Science. You will be trained in the techniques specific to the department and be responsible for a range of general laboratory duties to ensure efficient operation of the department, including but not exclusively: preparation of bioreactor reagents, assembly and cleaning of bioreactor vessels, routine maintenance and calibration of work related equipment and maintaining stocks of critical reagents and general items for the laboratory
We currently have opening to join our service and provide specialist support to Research and Development groups within our customer’s team in Cambridge.

  • Basic IT skills (including Microsoft Word/ Excel)
Responsibilities
  • Preparing bioreactor process related reagents as required and directed by the lead operator responsible for this service. This will include medium, feeds and other reagents associated supporting all bioreactor scales from bench through to large scale, including transient processes
  • Assembly of and cleaning of all bench top bioreactor vessels and associated glassware
  • Routine maintenance and/ or calibration of work related equipment. Reporting of equipment breakdowns and liaising with engineers to resolve problems
  • Maintaining a safe, organised and tidy working environment, active 5S contributor and responsible for assigned area (for example; stocking of welder trolleys, water bath cleans and MSX prep)
  • Monitoring and maintaining stock levels of critical reagents required for medium and feed preparation
  • Contributing to support of the ordering of general items required for the laboratory
  • Co-ordinating and arranging shipments between sites (samples, cell stocks)
  • Keep accurate and clear records of all work performed
  • Implement and promote AZ health and safety practices at all times, including the regulations governing CoSHH, as detailed in relevant AZ risk assessmentsSKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & COMPETENCIES
  • Essential: Five GCSE’s including Maths, English and one or more Science subjects
  • Desirable: A-level or equivalent, and/ or previous working experience in a laboratory environment, ideally performing a similar role
