SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • 1+ years of hands-on experience in a materials and/or chemistry laboratory
  • Experience in tissue culture, tissue processing or biochemistry (eg QPCR, mammalian cell culture, ELISA, western blots) is a plus
  • A strong and reliable safety mindset
  • Experience with medical devices in a plus

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Software proficiencies in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint are required.

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE:

The laboratory assistant will be a member of ConvaTec’s Applied Research team at the ConvaTec Technology Center in the greater Boston area. They will be part of the Biointerfaces and Regenerative Engineering team supporting a variety of activities to develop new products as well as examine the interaction between our medical device components and the biological tissues they contact. The role involves supporting the BRE team in executing experiments and collecting data as well as ensuring the smooth and safe running of the day to day laboratory including ordering, maintaining stocks and carrying out risk assessments. This individual will be trained on and conduct hands-on laboratory experimentation in our BSL1 and BSL2 laboratory facilities. This person will work under supervision to support LCM, NPD, front end innovation and marketing claims by generating experimental data. Experiments will include techniques in human and mammalian cell culture, biochemical assays, and tissue processing. They will be an integral part of data-driven decision making for the Biointerfaces and Regenerative Engineering team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for conducting and/or managing scientific research or quality testing performed in a laboratory environment including:

  • Conduct laboratory research safely and rigorously.
  • Maintain careful records of laboratory data and observations.
  • Install, operate, maintain and troubleshoot equipment when needed.
  • Help develop new laboratory capabilities and test methods necessary for experimentation and materials characterization.
  • Assess safety hazards of all new test methods and equipment. Work with our Facilities and EH&S manager to ensure proper PPE and procedures are in place for operation.
  • Write Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs) for new test methods developed.
  • Summarize and communicate results as needed
