Description

Basic Purpose: What is the overall function of the job?

  • Perform sample preparation / extractions of target compounds under specific matrices and provides general lab support in the analysis of samples using various inorganic wet chemistry techniques such as ISE, titration, spectrophotometry, combustion and/ or colorimetry
  • Result oriented to produce high quality defensible analytical data, safely and on time by following applicable Standard Operating Procedures.

Key Accountability/Responsibilities: What specifically is this job expected to accomplish?

  • Review LIMS summary reports to plan and organize daily work
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) when conducting the following work:
  • Perform sample preparation and procedures prior to analyses
  • Perform some basic testing procedures
  • Identify any non-routine samples and seek guidance on procedures for handling
  • Prepare standards and reagents and ensure adequate supplies are available by monitoring quantities
  • Ensure a high level of accuracy in sample preparation and analysis
  • Operate and maintain all necessary instruments and equipment to complete tasks (pipettes, Balances, pH meters, filtration apparatus, liquid handling instruments, etc.)
  • Assess and correct problems with all laboratory operations according to SOP guidelines and ISO 17025 regulation criteria
  • Meet quality and TAT specifications required by the client and ensure samples are analyzed within holding time requirements
  • Identify and document all known sample deviations, non-conformances, and/or process deviations and report to the Supervisor.
  • Provide input to corrective action procedures and report problems and Corrective Actions to the Supervisor.
  • Support and comply with all Bureau Veritas policies, Quality System and Health & Safety program
  • Employ proper laboratory techniques to minimize risk of mislabeling, sample mix-up and cross contamination between samples and other materials.
  • Provide supervisor/manager with updates on workstation status including advance notification of any delays
  • Support and comply with all Bureau Veritas policies, Quality System and Health & Safety program
  • Ability to lift 20kg of weight
  • Participation when requested in department and Health & Safety meetings
  • Participating when requested in internal and external audits
  • Keep work area clean, neat and organized
  • Maintain training records and relevant qualifications
  • All other responsibilities as assigned

Skills and Knowledge: What skills and knowledge are used to carry out job responsibilities and solve problems?

  • College Diploma/University Degree in Chemistry or related field.
  • Previous experience with Inorganic instrumentation, titration, spectrophotometry, combustion and /or colorimetry is preferred
  • Ability to accurately follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and instructions
  • Detail oriented with accurate record keeping skills.
  • Good time management, communication, multi-tasking and priority setting skills.
  • Strong computer skills
