JOB DESCRIPTION:

Sciantec, part of the Cawood Group, offers a complete analytical service for feedingstuffs, ingredients, raw materials, compound feed, meals, premixes, and forages. Our expertise in animal feed safety and nutrition, combined with modern testing facilities and broad analytical capacity, enables our ISO 17025 accredited laboratory to deliver specialist services for all associated sectors, including feed mills, pet foods, research and development, and commodities traders.
Sciantec are currently looking for Laboratory Technicians to join their microbiology team on a Full-Time permanent basis, based in Selby.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • To prepare and analyse samples within agree timeframes which ensure they are reported on time to our customers, while ensuring all HSE, quality and turnaround time requirements are met.
  • Microbiological analysis of samples (Weighing out, Plating) under aseptic techniques
  • Reading plates, identification of microbiological growth and carrying out further biochemical analysis tests if required
  • Correctly report all samples into LIMS.
  • Prepare dry culture media in line with our Standard Operating Procedures
  • Basic troubleshoot and resolve any issues with sample analysis or instrumentation
  • Understand and follow the Standard Operating Procedures provided.
  • Calibrate Laboratory equipment as needed
  • Participate in Internal and External Quality control programmes including audits
  • Respect company equipment ensuring to use them as per guidelines and to report any damage to management as soon as possible.
  • Maintain Cawood credibility by always portraying a positive image by keeping equipment and PPE clean.
  • Work as a team and maintaining morale and actively offer help and assistance wherever possible.
  • Responsible for keeping safety at the forefront of lab work and being proactive ensuring accidents and near misses are always reported straightaway to Managers in line with our company accreditation and policy.
  • Use of the following instrumentation, after successful training, balances, autoclaves, incubators and pipettes
  • When required, assist with on-site training of new employees providing proactive support ensuring there onboarding into the company is friendly, engaging, and inspiring.

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Preferred bachelor’s degree in microbiology or relevant science subject
  • Understanding of microbiology analysis
  • Previous experience of working in a Laboratory environment Ideal but not essential
  • Enthusiasm, energy, team focused.
  • Must be able to work effectively and collaborate within own team and other sections.
  • Must take initiative and have the ability to conduct hands-on work.
  • Must possess the ability to handle multiple tasks with high attention to detail.
  • Highly organised and excellent time management skills.
  • Have Good IT skills
  • Possess good written and verbal communication skills
  • Be able to work under pressure
  • Have accuracy and attention to detail
