About the Position: The Food Division operates a modern laboratory in Hamilton that is equipped with the latest in analytical technology. They’re seeking a Laboratory Technician to support the Dairy team in a 1-year parental leave cover. This hands-on role includes preparing and dispatching samples, maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment, and ensuring a clean, safe work environment. Ideally, you’ll have a science qualification or lab certificate, strong communication and organizational skills, and a commitment to quality, safety, and client service. Experience in a high-throughput lab environment is preferred. This is a 1 year fixed-term position; Monday to Friday 8AM to 4:30PM. Please note hours could flex between 30 – 40 hours per week. The Day to Day The successful applicants will undertake a range of duties including the following: Processing food and pharmaceutical samples for analysis Ensuring samples are analysed within holding times Weighing and checking samples Fast-paced work with accuracy required Blend food samples Completion of paperwork Ensuring client turnaround times are met Ensuring the laboratory operates in an efficient and safe manner Daily ad hock tasks The Essentials The successful candidate will possess the following skills and abilities: Minimum of a laboratory certificate or qualification in science Good chemical knowledge An understanding of safety precautions necessary while working with samples of unknown hazard Ability to undertake reasonable overtime as required Involved in daily housekeeping of the laboratory A strong commitment to client service Ability to work well in a team orientated environment Good communication and organisational skills Working at ALS The ALS team is a diverse and dedicated community united by our passion to make a difference in the world.
