Primary objective
Perform accurate and efficient routine testing of water samples using standard methods within a quality assurance
framework.
Context statement
The laboratory provides ‘fee for service testing’ and is accredited under National Association of Testing Authorities.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Perform testing of potable, waste and environmental water samples using standard methods in accordance with
laboratory accreditation requirements.
2. Maintain laboratory environment and equipment. Prepare standard solutions, media, and reagents.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Experience and sound, contemporary knowledge of laboratory techniques and technical skills related to chemistry and,
or microbiological analysis of water samples and proven ability to train and acquire skills in other technical areas of
laboratory operations.
2. Experience in handling laboratory materials and samples using techniques appropriate to the testing area of chemistry
and, or microbiology.
3. Proven ability to work autonomously and as part of a team environment, ensuring the completion of testing within strict
deadlines whilst meeting quality assurance requirements.
4. Proven ability to manage time efficiently and handle multiple tasks and assignments.
5. Relevant knowledge and ability with basic office software including a good level of skills with Microsoft Excel and
experience in handling data for the purpose of transfer and filing.
Desirable
1. Experience with use of databases, in particular Laboratory Information Management Systems
