LABORATORY TECHNICIAN / DEVELOPMENT CHEMIST – SPANJER CHEMICALS LTD.

The company is a leading Manufacturer and Distributor of cleaning chemicals predominately for the automotive and catering industries.

  • Product Development - Stability Testing - Working out QC Parameters - Customer Interaction (phone calls, emails or visits) - Supplier Interaction (development meetings, lab based) - Product trials
  • Small scale in our car park / in the lab
  • Larger scale on customer sites
  • Process Development - Scale up from small lab samples to batches of several tonnes - Mixing methods
  • MSDS Authoring - Classification of mixtures using our software - Choosing appropriate phrases to populate the rest of the sheet - DGN info - Translations into various languages (customer dependent, the software handles the bulk of the translation, Google does the rest) - Making sure all customers are updated whenever an MSDS changes
  • Label Design (industrial & retail) - Photoshop experience would be handy, but not essential - Working with our ChemLabel software - Making sure all the correct information gets put onto the label
  • Product Costing - Excel experience is a must - Updating RM costs - Periodically producing a costing summary calculating
  • Formulation cost
  • Finished goods costs (5L, 10L, 25L etc, including container, labelling and box costs)
  • Day to day - Answering customer queries
  • Directly (email / phone)
  • Indirectly (advising colleagues over email / phone) - Helping manufacturers
  • Faulty batches
  • New mixing methods
  • Label / transport (DGN) issues
  • RM sourcing
  • QC issues
  • Other duties - Visiting manufacturers at Wigan - Visiting current and potential customers (within the UK only – may need to drive) - Lab maintenance (ordering equipment, keeping everything safe and clean, etc.)
