The Opportunity We are looking for a keen Laboratory Technician to join our Nelson Team (this is a 12 month maternity term role) - you will be involved in the daily operations of the Fulton Hogan Blenheim laboratory in conjunction with one other Laboratory Technician and the Laboratory Manager whilst ensuring continuation of IANZ requirements. This role will involve a variety of tasks in the laboratory and out in the field, some travel and night shifts may be required as well. Your responsibilities include: • Sampling, testing and site testing of civil engineering construction materials – aggregates, soils and asphalt • Recording, analysing and reporting results • Following all work instructions and test methods in accordance with IANZ standards • Undertaking safe work practices at all times What you’ll bring to the table Practical laboratory experience within the civil engineering industry is highly advantageous, however candidates without this will also be considered. You may have just graduated with an NZCE qualification or work in civil construction and are looking to start a career in civil materials testing. The ideal candidate will have the following attributes: • Past or current engineering laboratory experience – in one or more or the following areas – aggregate, asphalt and site testing such as NDM use etc. Flexibility with work hours as the role includes night shifts, weekends and some travel • Accuracy and keen attention to detail – with the ability to follow laboratory methods and SOPs • Willingness to learn with a desire to increase personal technical knowledge • Strong communication skills, crucial for results reporting and client interaction • Can do and a positive attitude • Ability to see the big picture and coordinate team efforts What’s in it for you At Fulton Hogan we truly care about the wellbeing of our people and giving them the tools they need to succeed. Responsibilities
The Laboratory Technician will be involved in the daily operations of the Fulton Hogan Blenheim laboratory, ensuring continuation of IANZ requirements through sampling, testing of civil engineering materials, and recording/reporting results. Responsibilities also include undertaking safe work practices both in the laboratory and out in the field, potentially involving travel and night shifts.
