Lakeview Salary: Level I: up to $41,019.26, based on education and experience Level II: up to $45,220.03, based on education and experience Full Time /Part Time: Full Time Work Schedule: Monday to Friday Primary Hours: 8am to 5pm Position Description: The Laboratory Technician is responsible for supporting laboratory operations, including accessioning specimens in the laboratory information system, pre-analytic and post-analytic processing of specimens, shipping and receiving reagents/supplies/specimens, maintaining reagent/supply/specimen inventories, performing water quality checks, performing maintenance function checks of equipment, documenting equipment maintenance, managing inventory, and completing waived laboratory tests under the direction of professional staff. Position Responsibilities/Essential Functions: The functions within this job family will vary by level, but may include the following: Performs routine procedures such as receipt, sorting, and accessioning of submitted specimens (clinical and environmental) prior to laboratory testing, receipt and storage of laboratory reagents and supplies, shipping of specimens, preparation of laboratory reagents and media, and other activities that support general laboratory operations. Interacts daily with submitters and couriers to ensure the integrity and quality of submitted specimens and the accuracy of all demographic and specimen-related information. Maintains a professional demeanor and fosters positive working relationships with clients and couriers in support of the laboratory’s mission and service standards. Creates and maintains accurate laboratory records as per standard laboratory practices and procedures. Interacts daily with personnel across various testing sections of the laboratory to ensure effective communication, timely and accurate receipt of specimens, and coordinated workflow. Promotes positive working relationships, teamwork and collaboration to support efficient laboratory operations and timely completion of testing. Conducts waived laboratory tests under the direction of professional staff and other simple independent laboratory procedures (e.g., water function checks). Performs quality function checks and basic preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment. Ensures compliance with institutional and regulatory laboratory safety protocols, including consistent and appropriate utilization of personal protective equipment (PPE). Maintains a clean and sanitary work area in accordance with standard laboratory practices and procedures. Maintains and updates the laboratory’s inventory management system by tracking supply levels, documenting usage. Works effectively with laboratory staff and sections to monitor usage and ensure inventory levels are maintained to support uninterrupted testing and operations. Communicates with vendors and the OSDH Business Team to coordinate and verify laboratory supply orders, ensuring timely delivery, accuracy of invoices, and resolution of discrepancies or delays. Participates in drafting, revising, and reviewing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other applicable documents to ensure accuracy, compliance, and alignment with current laboratory practices. Maintains regular and reliable attendance, adhering to assigned work schedules to ensure consistent laboratory coverage and completion of essential duties. Individuals may be required to work on occasional weekends or holidays to support continuation of laboratory operations or response to surges in testing activities. Being present in the office is an essential function of this job Other duties as assigned In addition to all Level I duties, Level II include: Coordinates and collaborates with the laboratory section supervisor and fellow team members to ensure efficient workflow, proper task distribution, and adherence to laboratory procedures and quality standards. Trains personnel in general laboratory processes and procedures, including workflows and documentation practices to ensure consistency, accuracy, and adherence to established protocols. Other Duties Demonstrates knowledge of and supports mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior. Works effectively in team environment, participating and assisting their peers. Minimum Qualifications: Level I: Minimum requirements for this job are a high-school diploma. There is no required experience for this role, although preference will be given to those with knowledge of clinical laboratory processes and regulations Level II: Minimum requirements for this position are a high school diploma and at least one year of experience performing technical or non-technical laboratory procedures; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one college-level laboratory science course for every six months of the required experience. Knowledge of clinical laboratory processes and regulations is preferable. Being present in the laboratory and adhering to a defined time schedule are necessary to fulfill the functions of this job. Physical Demands and Work Environment: This position is set in a laboratory environment. While performing the required duties for this position one must be able to lift forty pounds and to stand for long periods of time. Work involves handling potentially infectious and hazardous materials. Some job duties may require the use of a respirator. Medical evaluation for respiratory fitness is an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirement for all persons required to wear a respirator to perform their job duties.
