POSITION SUMMARY

The Laboratory Technician I is responsible for performing assigned Laboratory support functions including the preparation of media and reagents, maintenance, cleaning and sterilization of Laboratory materials, equipment, and supplies, assistance with basic laboratory testing functions, and documentation of data. The Laboratory Technician I performs work following strict safety protocols and compliance standards to maintain a clean and orderly work environment.

EDUCATION DEGREE

  • High School Diploma or GED in Biology

Responsibilities:

DUTIES

Operational Excellence (100%)
1. Plans, organizes, and prepares for the day’s work autonomously and in collaboration with team members to determine best methods to accomplish daily goals.
2. Prepares media (e.g., pumps) and reagents to support Laboratory testing functions (e.g., labels glassware, moves glassware).
3. Maintains, cleans, and sterilizes Laboratory materials, equipment, supplies, and general working area (e.g., washes dishes to remove fine powders) while maintaining a safe work environment.
4. Assists in the operation of the steam sterilizer and maintains traceability.
5. Compiles, records and maintains data in specified forms (paper and electronic) such as specification sheets, sterilization records, Microsoft Excel logs to track information, and label generation using computers and basic machines.
6. Assists with basic Laboratory testing functions as directed. This may include preparation, set-up and clean-up activities.
7. Contributes in a team effort by performing in accordance to all STERIS policies, GMP, Lean principles and other directives; supports the directives and decisions of higher-level management and performs other duties as assigned.
8. This position may require the use of equipment and / or power tools, as applicable.
9. This position may require the incumbent to obtain their boilers license, as applicable.
