SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • 2+ years of laboratory or technical work experience, preferably in a Microbiology Laboratory setting.
  • A working knowledge and practical experience with ISO 13485 (Desirable) and laboratory SOPs. Experience working to ISO 15189 or within GxP setting is also advantageous.
  • A working knowledge of routine microbiological techniques.
  • Knowledge of stock control.
  • Computer literate- ability to use Word and Excel to basic level.

Responsibilities

DESCRIPTION OF THE ROLE

The Laboratory Technician has the responsibility to perform routine laboratory-based activities under the supervision of the R&D Manager and other senior members of the team. The Laboratory Technician also has the responsibility for maintenance of the laboratory areas in line with requirements. This role will be based onsite in Bath, UK.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITIES:

  • To be responsible for the maintenance of the laboratory areas and ensure periodic in-house maintenance and calibrations of laboratory equipment are conducted in accordance with documented processes.
  • To be responsible for coordinating servicing/preventative maintenance schedules of equipment with external suppliers and reporting any issues to R&D Manager.
  • To support in the preparation of laboratory reagents necessary for microbiological culture.
  • To be responsible for general laboratory housekeeping duties as per written documentation and maintaining laboratory stock of appropriate reagents, consumables and cleaning materials.
  • To be responsible for laboratory waste management, disinfection processes and overseeing cleaning of personal protective equipment.
  • To be responsible for facility environmental monitoring and reporting of any deficiencies using the Quality Management System.
  • To be responsible for conducting periodic laboratory inspections which include disposing of expired materials and to support in resolution of Health & Safety issues.
  • To support the incoming goods procedures into the laboratory, ensuring relevant inspections are completed and items quarantined where necessary.
  • Adhere to the requirements of the Quality Management System, reporting any deficiencies to the Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs Manager.
  • To support in prompt reporting of any deviations, out-of-specification / limits results, and assist where required with investigations.
  • To provide administrative support for laboratory staff relating to prototype instrument operations, supporting change documentation, and supporting readiness for experimental work.
  • To support laboratory staff in performing routine procedures in the testing of the prototype instrument.
  • To support communication with internal teams such as QA/RA & Engineering teams.
  • With suitable training provide good documentation practice and have the ability to write basic SOPs, work instructions and H&S documents where required.
  • To perform any additional duties as identified by the R&D Manager.
