Description
Position Summary   The Laboratory Technician/Phlebotomist will be enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the program in order to ensure a sterile environment and timely turn-around for same day procedures. They will also support every need of the program to grow it in terms of volume and success. Working under the direction and guidance of the StemCell Arts Program Coordinator and by performing all required duties and responsibilities outline below, the position is responsible for ensuring that quality services are provided to meet the needs of the patients and organization.   Duties and Responsibilities   * Properly process all samples brought to the lab including Platelet Rich Plasma, Platelet Lysate, Stem Cells * Keep a daily temperature log of both the refrigerator and freezer every morning and afternoon * Maintain a clean and organized lab, which includes daily cleanings as well as weekly sterilizations * Keep accurate and up- to- date cleaning schedule and log that will be monitored by the Program Coordinator * Monitor the condition of all lab equipment, notifying the Program Coordinator when equipment becomes worn or unable to use * Monitor and coordinate the calibrations of necessary equipment in the lab * Maintain inventory logs and monitor the supply inventory * Communicate with Coordinator to notify them of the supplies needed to be ordered as well as the arrival or backorder of necessary items * Maintain a sterile environment * Ensure proper storage and disposal of all samples and medical waste, including disposing of all waste into medical biohazard bins and changing used bins regularly * Accurately document all lab processing, in the log located in the lab, centricity as well as the Regenexx FormStack database. * Communicate with Coordinator or appropriate medical assistant if processing orders cannot be completed as requested * Understands, complies with and enforces NSPC policies, procedures, code of conduct and OSHA and HIPAA privacy rules. * Adhere to and uphold all applicable federal and state compliance regulations as well as NSPC’s Code of Conduct and Employee Handbook, compliance policies and procedures, and applicable healthcare fraud, waste and abuse laws. * Annual completion of compliance training * Reporting issues * Other duties as assigned   * Understands, complies with, and enforces all NSPC policies, procedures, codes of conduct, and OSHA and HIPAA privacy rules. * Adhere to and uphold all applicable federal and state compliance regulations as well as NSPC’s Code of Conduct and Employee Handbook, compliance policies and procedures, and applicable healthcare fraud, waste and abuse laws. * All other duties as assigned.     Qualifications and Skills   * High school diploma, and one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. B.A. or B.S. a plus. * Background in science and interest in Chemistry or Biology preferred * Strong interest in science (i.e. Chemistry or Biology) and research. * Ease in working in a fast-paced environment with the ability to adapt to a constant changing schedule. * Excellent verbal and written presentation and communication skills. * Driven and highly self-motivated. * Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work independently while paying close attention to details. * Ability to problem-solve. Capable to work quickly to resolve or minimize identified problems. * Attentive to details with the ability to multi-task. * Proficient in basic math skills in order to do calculations. * Proficient in general office equipment and computer literacy. Ability to learn new software technologies. EMR experience preferred. * Ability to travel to the Chevy Chase Regenexx office sporadically, as needed.   Working Conditions   * Located in a fast-paced, clinical office environment with a noise level that is generally moderate/elevated. * Periodic use of standard office equipment (including computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines, etc.). * Regular use of clinical equipment (including autoclaves, c-arms, crash carts, intravenous therapy materials, etc.). * Close and regular interactions with patients occur, which may result in exposure to blood borne pathogens and/or other diseases/infections. Appropriate infection control policies and procedures are practiced and enforced at all times to minimize any risks. * Ability/flexibility to travel company-wide is necessary.     Physical Requirements   * Extensive and regular periods of sitting, standing, bending, walking, seeing, talking, and listening. * A full range of body motion including complete manual and finger dexterity, as well as effective hand-eye coordination. * Adequate visual acuity including ability to read information. * A regular requirement to reach with hands/arms, stoop, kneel, or crouch. * An occasional/a regular requirement to push, pull, lift and/or move up to X * The ability to operate a motor vehicle with a valid driver’s license, as needed.
