Description JOB DESCRIPTION LAB TECHNICIAN – OIL ANALYSIS Department: Fleet & Maintenance Operations Location: Bloomington Shop – Bloomington, CA Classification: Full-Time, Non-Exempt Reports To Engine Shop Manager Position Summary Ecology Auto Parts Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Lab Technician – Oil Analysis to join our Fleet & Maintenance Operations team in Bloomington, CA. This position plays a critical role in supporting fleet reliability, preventative maintenance strategies, and asset longevity through accurate lubricant analysis and reporting. The Lab Technician will be responsible for operating a Lubricant Analysis Instrument, receiving and processing oil samples from multiple company facilities, and generating reports related to engine oil condition, wear metals, and potential contamination indicators. The successful candidate will bring strong technical aptitude, analytical capability, and a high attention to detail to ensure data integrity and actionable maintenance insights. Responsibilities Operate, calibrate, and maintain the Lubricant Analysis Instrument in accordance with manufacturer specifications. Receive, log, label, and track oil samples from multiple company facilities. Perform engine oil analysis and interpret findings related to engine performance and wear patterns. Identify abnormal findings including elevated metal counts (iron, copper, aluminum, etc.), high sodium levels indicating potential coolant leaks, and other contamination indicators. Detect and report signs of engine wear, oil degradation, or fluid contamination. Generate accurate, timely, and clear reports for Fleet Management and Maintenance leadership. Maintain detailed tracking of samples and results utilizing Microsoft Excel and internal systems. Ensure proper documentation, data accuracy, and compliance with internal quality standards. Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety within the laboratory workspace. Support continuous improvement initiatives related to fleet reliability and preventative maintenance analytics. Partner with Maintenance leadership on special projects and data reporting as assigned. Requirements Qualifications/Knowledge/Critical Skills High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree in a technical, mechanical, or related field preferred. Experience operating laboratory equipment required; oil analysis experience strongly preferred. Ability to interpret oil analysis results and understand engine wear indicators. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel. High attention to detail and accuracy in data handling and reporting. Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple samples and deadlines. Ability to work independently while maintaining strong communication with maintenance and leadership teams. Background in diesel engines, Natural Gas Engines, or heavy equipment maintenance preferred. Familiarity with engine wear metals, coolant contamination indicators, and fleet maintenance environments preferred. Physical Demands/Environmental Factors While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle instruments and samples; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Occasionally required to stand and walk. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Work environment includes a laboratory setting within a fleet maintenance facility. Compensation The Lab Technician – Oil Analysis position offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $22.00 to $25.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
