Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to work as a Laboratory Technician for a programme of research called Children Growing Up in Liverpool. Working under the direction of the Programme Manager, you will provide technical support for the collection, processing and storage of human samples for biobanking and use in future research. You will also support the extraction of microbial DNA from faecal and breast milk samples to allow investigation of the effect of the microbiome on future health outcomes, in particular mental health.
You should have at a minimum a BTEC Higher Level (or equivalent) in a relevant healthcare / biomedical science, some experience of working in a research laboratory or clinical setting, a good working knowledge of the Human Tissue Act Regulations and experience of working with / handling a range of biological material. The candidate must have excellent technical knowledge and interpersonal skills, and must also be able and willing to work flexibly depending on workload and priorities.
You should have a positive `can do’ attitude and show a willingness to learn and improve on your existing skills and knowledge.
The role is available for 12 months initially, with the vision for continuation subject to availability of funding and requirement.
