Description

LAB TECH- FULL TIME

Professional, detail oriented laboratory technologist wanted to work in a high volume manufacturing lab handling and processing donated units of blood to create blood components. Position full time during weekdays 4 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. in the evening and 2 weekends (both Saturday & Sunday) per month. Position involves spinning, filtering and labeling blood components.
High school diploma or equivalent required.

SUMMARY:

Reconcile, process and manufacture blood components. Work is performed in accordance with established business practices and procedures, and in compliance with direction provided by the Director of Laboratory or Chief Operating Officer.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent considered.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have valid Pennsylvania driver’s license
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Must be able to stand for a minimum of 2 hours without a break
  • Must be able to reach overhead at least to 60 inches
  • Must be able to squat, twist, reach and bend as necessary to complete duties

Responsibilities
  • Oversee training in the lab as directed by Lead Lab Tech or Directory of Laboratory to obtain the greatest efficiency
  • Perform and participate in required monthly QC to meet, without failure, compliant timeframe
  • Label, quarantine, or discard blood products according to Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank SOPs.
  • Participate in all phases of product manufacturing including but not limited to centrifugation, expressing, sampling, splitting, testing, leukoreduction, freezing, fractioning and pooling.
  • Pick-up, receive, and reconcile shipments of whole blood for component manufacture or distribution.
  • Review, reconcile and organize documents associated with blood collection, whole blood shipments, product storage and product manufacture.
  • Execute computer functions associated with component manufacture and blood product distribution according to Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank SOPs.
  • Complete and maintain logs and records associated with component manufacture, blood product distribution, and storage of blood and blood components.
  • Assist in supply receipt and processing as described in Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank SOP and/or directed by Director of Laboratory or Chief Operating Officer.
  • Perform temperature documentation of products, product storage equipment, supply storage and other temperature monitoring requirements.
  • Take and respond to product storage alarms during operational hours.
  • Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of product storage equipment, laboratory and distribution work areas.
  • Assist, contribute and participate in QA/regulatory initiatives as directed by Director of Laboratory, Chief Operating Officer, or QA Director.
  • Participate in after-hours courier phone rotation. Rotate weekend shift coverage for laboratory.
  • Adhere to CPBB employee, OSHA and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Assist and support other technical work activities as directed by Director of Laboratory and Chief Operating Officer.
  • Promote productive relationships with customers, donors and staff through considerate, respectful interactions.
  • Take and process routine and stat blood product and supply requests as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.
