Job Description Position Purpose: Performs the duties of the Department of Public Works, which include concrete work, facility and grounds maintenance, street patching, limb and debris removal, leaf pickup, and general cleanup duties. Primary Duties/Responsibilities: Performs mechanically related activities specified by work order; and performs preventive maintenance on mechanical and hydraulic equipment according to vendor specifications. Inspects and trouble shoots mechanical equipment, electromechanical, and hydraulic equipment using tools and gauges of the trade, performs routine lubrication of equipment. Obtains necessary parts through established procedures, and reports and documents results of inspections and work performed. Performs limb, debris, leaf and other removal when required. Performs concrete repair and replacement. Performs all duties associated with a public works department, when needed and as needed. Completes and when required fills out work orders. Operates vehicles as required and operates mowing equipment. Assures work is performed in a safe and professional manner by following established safety, operating, and emergency response procedures. Performs cleanup and housekeeping tasks for work area, tools, equipment, facilities, and grounds. Performs the duties of Public Works Worker I and related duties as needed. Work Environment: Requires working in outside and inside environments with noise and all temperatures and climatic conditions, must be able to work under adverse weather conditions for extended periods. Qualifications Education/Experience/Background: High School Diploma/GED is required. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Requires strong reading, math, writing, and verbal communication skills; a mechanical aptitude; and the ability to read, interpret, and record data; and to read specifications and vendor instructions. Requires the ability to carry out verbal and written instructions. Must have the ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees. Required Certification/Licenses/Training: Must have a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record. Physical Requirements: Ability to perform tasks standing, walking, climbing stairs, squatting, bending, kneeling, crawling, twisting, lifting and while hands are extended above head or in front of body.
