Description LAC Federal is seeking a Reference Librarian / Research Services Specialist to support a federal library in the Washington, DC metro area. This position serves as a primary point of contact for agency staff, researchers, and the public, delivering high-quality reference and research services across multiple service channels including in-person service desks, online chat, email, and telephone. The librarian will provide authoritative responses to both basic and complex information requests, support discovery and access to agricultural and scientific resources, and contribute to service improvement initiatives, metrics, and reporting in alignment with local standards and procedures. This is a full-time benefited position. Provide daily reference and research service coverage across all service channels. Respond to basic and complex information requests using specialized agricultural and scientific resources. Monitor and manage LibAnswers requests and perform triage. Maintain proficiency with local databases, platforms, and collections. Support both physical and digital user experiences. Contribute to FAQs, workflows, and service improvements. Support special projects, FOIA requests, bibliometrics, and data calls as assigned. Participate in training, documentation updates, and reporting. Requirements MLS or MLIS preferred; 5+ years relevant experience may substitute. Minimum one year professional reference or research experience. Knowledge of agriculture, food, or environmental sciences. Experience with virtual reference platforms (LibAnswers/LibApps). Knowledge of MARC records and metadata. Strong communication, research, and organizational skills. Ability to work onsite and obtain required federal clearance.
