Job Summary Responsible for providing information and education regarding breastfeeding to patients and families and assists patients with the establishment of lactation. Does this position require Patient Care? Yes Essential Functions Providing lactation assessment, planning, education and instruction to patients and family -Identifies and aids in resolution of breastfeeding difficulties, develops care plans with staff to meet individual patient's needs and provides follow-up consultations -Offering post-delivery consultative care to patients: breastfeeding/Chest feeding, family bonding and planning -Evaluating patient's response to care and initiates independent and/or collaborative changes where appropriate -Coordination and management of care for patients, including those with complex needs -Provides information and education regarding breastfeeding to maternity and NICU staff Qualifications Education Associate's Degree Nursing required or Bachelor's Degree Nursing preferred Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No Licenses and Credentials Certified Lactation Counselor/Consultant [CLC] - Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice preferred International Board Certified Lactation Consultant [IBCLC] - International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) preferred Experience Lactation consulting 2-3 years preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Strong patient/customer service skills. - Strong written and oral communication skills. - Ability to build strong relationships. - Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
