The Lactation Consultant is responsible for providing evidence-based, comprehensive breastfeeding education, counseling, and support services for mothers, babies, and families. This position is responsible for providing guidance and support to healthcare providers, new parents, and families in the promotion of breastfeeding, as well as the implementation of breastfeeding-friendly practices. Requirements Lactation Consultant Duties and Responsibilities Provide individual support services, including follow-up phone and email support Assess and document maternal and infant health and breastfeeding goals Provide breastfeeding education and counseling to healthcare providers, families, and the community Identify and refer clients to appropriate community resources Develop and maintain breastfeeding practices Lactation Consultant Requirements and Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in nursing, health education, or related field Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) certification Three to five years of clinical experience in lactation or breastfeeding consulting Knowledge of current breastfeeding research and evidence-based practice Excellent teaching, communication, and counseling skills Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills Able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team Proficient in the use of computers and related software applications
