POSITION OVERVIEW:

The PDRO is the lead election official at the polling station, supervising staff, guiding the day’s activities, and resolving issues with wisdom and patience. This role combines strong organization with a servant-leadership mindset.
This position works under the supervision and direction of the Returning Officer (Secretary Treasurer) for the Lakeland Catholic School Division.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• At least 18 years of age on Election Day and eligible to work in Canada.
• Prior election or leadership experience preferred.
• Skilled in organization, conflict resolution, and clear communication.
• Able to model patience, discretion, and professionalism.
• Comfortable with map reading and rural addressing.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Participate in mandatory training hosted by the Returning Officer before Election Day.
• Pick up and securely store all election materials in advance.
• Ensure the polling station is prepared and accessible, welcoming all who come to vote.
• Supervise and support election staff, assigning duties and scheduling breaks to serve voters effectively.
• Assist electors who need guidance while respecting their privacy and dignity.
• Maintain a peaceful and orderly environment.
• Oversee ballot counting and accurate reporting of results.
• Coordinate respectfully with candidates, scrutineers, and media representatives.
• Return the ballot box and supplies safely at the end of the day.
