Job Description Summary
LAN Installation and Repair Serviceperson participates in testing and physical installation and provide assistance with implementation, maintenance and documentation of campus Local Area Networks (LANs).
Organizational Status
Works within the Network Infrastructure Services unit as of a team providing support for UBCNET and Campus VoIP Service. Reports to the Manager under the UBC NETwork and Infrastructure Facilities unit. Works with other teams within UBC IT to support campus enterprise network services. Works with other campus IT units, IT units at other universities and institutions, the research community and other customers.
Work Performed
Consequence of Error/Judgement
Determines the sequence of work, the work methods and decides how best to complete installation and repair work based on technical knowledge of the IT/telecommunications field, industry standards and related departmental guidelines and policies.
Failure to complete work appropriately may result in Network operation failure, impacting the business continuity of the University; customer inconvenience and additional costs to correct errors.

Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation and two years technological training in a relevant program. Two years relevant experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
