Why This Role is Exciting You’ll get exposure to a wide variety of projects, including: Higher education campuses Healthcare facilities Mixed-use and multifamily developments National homebuilder communities Retail and commercial developments Industrial and logistics facilities Municipal and local government projects How You’ll Make an Impact Work within a collaborative team to develop site civil engineering plans and specificationsfor a wide range of land development projects. Prepare site layouts, grading, drainage, utilities, erosion and sediment control, and related design elements using AutoCAD Civil 3D and other tools. Contribute to construction documents, technical specifications, and engineering reports, with a focus on accuracy and high-quality work. Support stormwater management, utility design, and sustainable site design solutions that improve community resilience. Collaborate closely with colleagues in other VHB offices and disciplines—including transportation, environmental, and planning—on integrated project teams. As you gain experience, help train and mentor junior staff on technical standards, tools, and best practices. Participate in professional organizations and business development activities as your interests and experience grow. What You Bring Interest in innovative, practical design solutions for complex, real-world projects. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills—you’re comfortable asking questions and collaborating. A learning mindset and willingness to work on integrated projects with multidisciplinary teams. Commitment to high-quality work, sustainability, and resilience in the built environment. Familiarity with land development processes; knowledge of Charlotte-area codes, ordinances, and development regulations is a plus. Qualifications BS in Civil Engineeringor a related degree. 1–3+ years of civil engineering experience (internship, co-op, or full-time) in land development, site design, or related areas. EIT licensure or FE Exam passed preferred (or in progress). Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Experience with any of the following is a plus: HydroCAD, WaterCAD, WaterGEMS Microsoft Project BIM 360 or similar cloud collaboration platforms Experience in developing site plans, construction documents, technical specifications, and engineering reports is highly valued.
