Description:

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Environmental Project Coordinator, the Land Guardian will assist the Guardian Lead with the planning and implementation of Land Guardian Program activities. Activities include wildlife and land use monitoring, routine patrols and community outreach activities.
The majority of your time will be spent on the land and waters within the Moose Cree First Nation (MCFN) territory. You will also spend some days in the office participating in meetings, conducting data entry or other office-based tasks. The ideal candidate possesses experience on the land and waters in MCFN territory, able to communicate effectively and tactfully with a wide range of individuals, and act as a mentor and role model.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Mature individual, minimum 19 years of age
  • At least one (1) year of bush skills (i.e. hunting, trapping, fishing, guiding etc.)
  • Familiar with MCFN history and traditional territory
  • Physical fitness and comfortable working outdoors in remote locations
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office Programs
  • Respectful demeanor and good oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Willingness to travel and work overtime.
  • Must provide a satisfactory CPIC or proof of application.
  • Valid class G driver’s license is required.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Environmental monitoring training and/or experience
  • Workforce Safety Certificates such as, WHMIS, OHS, Bear Aware, Wilderness First Aid, ATV, PAL certification or ability to obtain certification
  • Map reading and GPS skills
  • Ability to understand and speak Cree
    Salary: $50,700.00 – $64,213.00
    Duration: Permanent with 3 months probation
