The Lawrence N. Field Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College, City University of New York is seeking to fill the fully endowed Larry and Eris Field Family Chair in Entrepreneurship with an individual who has achieved significant academic standing in the field of innovation and/or entrepreneurship. Rank (Associate Professor or Full Professor) will be awarded based on the candidate’s qualifications.
The Chairholder will be expected to be an integral part of the academic community by playing a major leadership role in the continued development and growth of the department’s research, curricular, and co-curricular initiatives, providing mentorship to junior faculty and PhD students, and otherwise contributing positively to the collaborative culture of the department.
The Lawrence N. Field Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovation was launched in 2023 and made possible by the generosity of Lawrence N. Field (’52) and his family. The department offers a BBA in entrepreneurship and innovation, a graduate certificate in product management, and a PhD in management and entrepreneurship, and has several additional degree-granting programs in development. In total more than 800 students are enrolled in the department’s courses each year. The new Chairholder will join eight current full-time faculty members, including one other Chaired Full Professor (and current Field Editor at Journal of Business Venturing), two Associate Professors, three Assistant Professors, and two Lecturers. Department faculty and PhD students regularly publish their research in the world’s leading entrepreneurship, innovation, and management journals, including but not limited to Academy of Management Journal, Management Science, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Research Policy, Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies, Organization Studies, Journal of Business Ethics, and Human Resource Management. The department has a robust research culture, consisting of a faculty research workshop series, visiting scholar program, PhD student seminars series, and other research-focused initiatives. The Chairholder will also work closely with the Lawrence N. Field Center for Entrepreneurship, which is an innovative model for entrepreneurship which brings together faculty, staff, students, alumni, volunteer professionals, and NYC community members to support aspiring and established entrepreneurs through a combination of co-curricular programs, Small Business Development Center, CUNY Startup Accelerator, and MakerHub innovation lab. In total, more than 10,000 individuals attend the Field Center’s events each year.
With more than 15,000 students, the Zicklin School of Business is the largest AACSB-accredited business school in the United States and offers an array of full-time, part-time, executive, and honors programs leading to BBA, MBA, MS, PhD, and DBA degrees. QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Earned doctorate in the field of entrepreneurship, innovation, management, strategy, or related discipline.
  • Record of research, teaching, and service accomplishments that satisfy the Department’s, School’s, and College’s standards for tenure and appointment to the rank of either Associate Professor or Full Professor.
  • Distinguished and sustained research record, as evidenced by an established and ongoing record of publications on innovation and/or entrepreneurship in the world’s leading academic journals (e.g., UTD, FT50, AJG 4*).
  • Robust pipeline of research on innovation and/or entrepreneurship targeted at these same journals.

Preferred:

  • Impactful service to the institution (e.g., leadership of department-, school-, college-, or university-level initiatives), profession (e.g., editorial positions at top journals), and industry (e.g., application of research to practice)
  • Proven ability to effectively lead, mentor, and work cooperatively with others.
