Department Overview The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a faculty member credentialed and privileged as a Physician Assistant (PA) or an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) (in a respective Specialty area; i.e., Nurse Practitioner (NP), Certified Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM), Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS)). The APP is a member of the OHSU Professional Staff practicing in accordance with the respective bylaws. The APP shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. The APP is expected to comply with scope of practice, other laws, regulations, OHSU policy, and other applicable professional standards of practice. The purpose of this position is to provide, coordinate and support adult patient care in the Division of Laryngology Head and Neck Surgery. Position collaborates with faculty, residents, fellows and speech therapists to deliver appropriate, timely patient care. She/he will provide clinical support through the following daily tasks, including, but not limited to conducting new patient intake visits, division triage support, review of pre- and post-op directions with surgical patients, assist during office procedures, holding independent clinic sessions for new and follow up appointments. Collaborates with Division Chief to continuously improve care coordination, customer service, and administrative processes and systems. Function/Duties of Position Clinical Activities (not related to teaching or research): Position will hold independent clinic sessions each day of the week. Position will assist with daily triage and medical review Participates in Tumor Board sessions and other OHSU Cancer Institute programming. Participates in daily morning rounds with faculty and residents. Scholarly Activities (research/writing, abstracts, grant supported work, presentations, etc.): Grand Round presentations bi-annually. Administrative Activities: Participates in the development of clinical pathways / care plans / guidelines / protocols in conjunction with faculty and inpatient nursing leadership. Facilitates communication between faculty, residents, and SLP’s. Other Activities Required Qualifications Education: Master’s Degree as required by specific Advanced Practice Provider role. Experience: 3 – 5 years clinical experience as an APP that demonstrates ability to fulfill responsibilities for the specific role preferred. Willing to train a new graduate with minimal rotation experience in an Otolaryngology / Head and Neck Surgery environment. Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated ability to satisfy standards of performance delineated by law and associated professional practice standards, the latter set forth as an addendum to the position description. Ability to manage heavy workload with multiple priorities and inflexible deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Proficient in the use of computing hardware and software, including personal computing equipment, electronic medical record, word processing and spreadsheet software. Regular and consistent attendance at work Willingness to learn Registrations, Certifications and/or Licenses: Current licensure as required by specific Advanced Practice Provider governing board(s).Certified, National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants or Certified Nurse Practitioner.
