Description Position summary Pull the upper over the last and set the shape of the boot to the master sample. Essential functions Mount the insole and the last. Align the upper to the last centerline. Operate pulling-over, toe lasting, side lasting and heel seat lasting machines. Set tension, wipe and heat so the upper conforms without wrinkling, over-stretching or tearing. Inspect every lasted pair against its mate. A boot is only correct as a pair. Pull lasts after set and return them to inventory in size order. Report machine drift immediately. A lasting machine out of adjustment ruins a lot, not a pair. Requirements Minimum qualifications One or more years lasting or demonstrated mechanical aptitude and willingness to train to full rate. Physical strength and hand control. This is the most physically demanding station in the plant. An eye for symmetry and shape. Physical requirements and work environment This position works on the production floor. Standing for the full shift on a concrete floor. Occasional lifting up to 40 pounds; frequent lifting up to 20 pounds. Repetitive use of hands, wrists and arms. Exposure to leather dust, adhesive vapor and machine noise. Hearing protection, eye protection and steel-toe footwear are required. Reasonable accommodation is available to qualified individuals with disabilities. This department carries the highest sustained force and repetitive-motion load in the plant. How performance is measured Pairs lasted per shift against standard. First-pass quality on shape. Rework at Bottoming traced to lasting.
Responsibilities
The Laster is responsible for pulling boot uppers over lasts and using specialized machinery to set the shape according to master samples. They must inspect pairs for symmetry and maintain machine adjustments to ensure quality production.
