Responsibilities

KEY OBJECTIVES OF ROLE

· To maintain the cleanliness and tidiness of the laundry including all linen storage areas.
· To maintain the operation of washing machines, tumble dryers and ironing processes.
· To ensure all residents clothes and household linen are well maintained and cared for.
· To understand the need to promote privacy, dignity, independence, choice, rights and fulfilment of all residents, treating everyone with respect.

MAIN ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· To maintain all areas of the laundry, including equipment and linen cupboards, ensuring they remain clean and tidy at all times.
· Ensure all laundry equipment and materials are maintained in a safe, clean and full working condition and report to the Home Manager or Head of Maintenance any faults or failure of equipment.
· Ensure that all chemicals used in the laundry room are replenished as required and that stock levels are monitored to ensure the continuous operation of laundry services.
· Process all household linen and residents’ personal clothing ensuring that items are washed at the correct temperatures according to the type of fabric and manufacturer’s instructions.
· Ensure that all items of clothing and household linen are thoroughly cleansed and stain free before returning to resident’s rooms or the linen cupboards.
· Ensure that all items of household linen and resident’s personal clothing are ironed and pressed as required to maintain a high standard of finished articles and presentation.
· Ensure that all items of household linen and resident’s personal clothing are in a good state of repair, bringing to the attention of the Home Manger where items need to be replaced.
· Check that all personal clothing is clearly labelled with the residents’ name.
· Return all household linen and residents’ personal clothing to linen cupboards or the residents’ bedrooms as appropriate. Ensure resident’s wardrobes and clothes cupboards remain neat, tidy and well stocked at all times.
· Ensure that infection control policies are strictly adhered to including the correct method of handling items that have been soiled with body products and including the use of personal protective equipment.
· Understand and ensure the implementation of the Home’s Health and Safety, Infection Control, COSHH, Emergency First Aid and Fire policy and procedures and respond appropriately.
· Contribute to the safeguarding of adults by ensuring you are aware of your role in relation to the company’s Safeguarding Adults Policy, taking steps to protect residents from any form of abuse or neglect and use the appropriate reporting systems to inform the homes management of any concerns.
