We are currently seeking two lawyers with one to five years of experience to join our team in Toronto.
KPMG Law’s Tax Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice is the second largest tax litigation practice in Canada, with over 150 lawyers nationally, and a team of 40 dedicated solely to helping our clients resolve their Canadian tax disputes.

We assist taxpayers to obtain timely and fair resolutions in their tax disputes. We are involved at each stage of the tax dispute process – audit, administrative appeal, and litigation in federal and provincial courts and tribunals.

What you will do:

  • Conduct legal research, analysis and assessment
  • Prepare correspondence and legal documents (such as written representations, notices of objections, and pleadings) for tax authorities (such as the Canada Revenue Agency) and the courts (such as the Tax Court of Canada)
  • Assist clients in responding to federal and provincial audits
  • Assist with the litigation process in federal and provincial courts and tribunals
  • Advise clients on the tax dispute resolution process and represent clients with tax authorities
  • Prepare legal opinions with respect to the tax consequences of transactions, and performing post-transaction audits for tax efficacy and litigation risk
  • Stay informed on relevant areas of law and participate in continuing education and professional development activities

What you bring to this role:

  • Juris Doctor or Master of Taxation (or equivalent)
  • Member of the Law Society of Ontario and in good standing
  • One to five years of tax dispute and litigation experience gained at a reputable firm
  • Knowledge of Canada Revenue Agency disputes processes, and the procedure of the Tax Court of Canada and other relevant courts/tribunals
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-driven, detail-oriented and hard-working
  • Resourcefulness and the ability to work with a high level of autonomy
