Description Position Overview The Bassett Firm is seeking a motivated law student to join our dynamic civil litigation team as a Law Clerk. This is an exceptional opportunity for a law student or pre-law school student to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced legal environment, working closely with experienced attorneys and developing critical legal skills. Primary Responsibilities Legal Research and Writing Conduct comprehensive legal research on complex litigation matters Prepare detailed legal memoranda and research reports Draft preliminary legal documents, including pleadings and discovery responses Assist in preparing CLE papers and blog content for the firm Case Management and Investigation Assist in gathering and organizing case facts Conduct preliminary investigations, including: Social media and public records research Gathering preliminary case information Monitoring and tracking case-related documentation Perform background investigations and gathering information Support attorneys in case preparation and documentation Administrative and Support Duties Track and manage billable hours accurately Organize and manage workflow and email communications Manage firm-related administrative tasks Schedule meetings and court-related appointments Submit check requests and reimbursements Assist with client intake processes Maintain and update case management systems Client and Court Interaction Monitor and submit Public Information Act (PIA) requests Call courts for case status updates Assist in preparing deposition notices Support attorneys in client communication and case management Marketing and Professional Development Contribute to firm blog and marketing materials Assist in preparing internal presentations Support firm's professional development initiatives Requirements Qualifications Law Clerk: Currently enrolled in law school Law Clerk: Completed first-year legal writing course(s) Law Clerk: Bachelor's degree Legal Intern: Currently enrolled in college or a college graduate preparing for the LSAT Legal Intern: Strong interest in our area of practice Resident of Texas or Oklahoma Strong academic performance Essential Skills Exceptional written and verbal communication skills Keen attention to detail Strong research and analytical capabilities Proficiency in legal research tools Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently Demonstrated teamwork and collaborative skills Preferred Attributes Experience with legal research databases Basic understanding of civil litigation processes Technical proficiency with legal software and Microsoft Office suite Work Expectations Flexible work schedule 10-20 hours per week during academic year Full-time availability during summer and school breaks Daily Clock-In’s to check communications Hybrid work model The first month requires in-office work for team integration Option to work remotely after initial onboarding Compensation and Benefits Competitive hourly rate: $25.00 per hour for Law Clerk and $20.00 per hour for Legal Intern Benefits include: 401(k) with matching Employee assistance program Flexible scheduling Professional development support Referral program Culture and Values The Bassett Firm seeks candidates who are: Dependable and passionate Committed to professional growth Team-oriented Adaptable and eager to learn Application Process Complete Culture Index Survey (required) Demonstrate eligibility to work in Texas or Oklahoma Provide proof of school requirements The Bassett Firm is an equal opportunity employer committed to developing the next generation of legal professionals.
