PROFILE

We are currently seeking an energetic, detail-oriented, self-starter to join our fast-paced Law Clerk team. As a member of the Law Clerk team, the incumbent will primarily support the professionals in the Financial Services and Real Estate group, with a focus on our Real Estate and Lending practice areas.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Law Clerk certificate/diploma
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in the Real Estate Lending fields
  • Law Clerk certificate/diploma and ILCO certification
  • Experience in secured financing transactions will be an asset
  • Possess a broad foundation of legal concepts, experience and applications relevant to the practice of commercial real estate law and lending
  • Ability to deal with changing priorities and busy practices
  • Meeting strict deadlines with excellent multi-tasking and problem solving skills
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication skills and client service skills
  • Ability to manage a large volume of work
  • Ability to work with strong personalities, while under pressure
  • Confident and dependable with strong initiative and the ability to work both independently and in a team oriented atmosphere
  • Strong technical aptitude with excellent knowledge and experience in MS Office.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing various transactions including commercial bank/mortgage financing, re-financings and assumptions, purchase and sales, and title clean-ups
  • Drafting a variety of documentation in respect of the above transactions, including security documents, leases, amendments, notices and other correspondence in accordance with legislation and/or governing regulations
  • Conducting due diligence searches (including off-title enquiries) in connection with real estate acquisitions, conducting and reviewing title and off-title searches, registering documents and drafting requisitions
  • Negotiating and finalizing title insurance policies for acquisitions and financings
  • Conducting corporate due diligence as needed
  • Preparing reporting letters as needed
  • Liaising with clients and other service providers as needed
  • Familiarity with Personal Property Security Act (PPSA), Teraview and other security registration systems
  • Willingness to learn about real estate and lending transactions
  • Organizing files and / or closings
  • Other duties as required
