Description
A premier university in Asia, the Singapore Management University (SMU) is internationally recognised for its world class research and distinguished teaching. Established in 2000, SMU’s mission is to generate leading edge research with global impact and to produce broad-based, creative and entrepreneurial leaders for the knowledge-based economy. It is known to be a pioneer in Singapore for its interactive and technologically-enabled pedagogy of seminar-style teaching in small class sizes which remains its unique hallmark. The Yong Pung How School of Law at the Singapore Management University was established in August 2007 with the mission to build a collegial team of excellent researchers and teachers and to nurture lawyers who will lead and serve the community with distinction. Our programmes (currently comprising a 4-year LLB programme, a postgraduate Juris Doctor programme, LLM and PhD programmes) aim to produce holistic graduates who understand law in context, and who are able to think across disciplines and geographical borders. Interactive seminar-style teaching is employed to create a learning environment that is dynamic and challenging. Applicants for all ranks and on both tracks (tenure or non-tenure) should ordinarily have a first degree in law and a postgraduate degree in law from reputable law schools. Applicants who do not possess a postgraduate degree in law are welcome to apply if they are able to demonstrate a strong publication record and relevant experience in teaching, legal practice, government, international organisations, or the judiciary. Evidence of successfully applying for external research grants and/or working in interdisciplinary research teams (where law is one of the research disciplines) will be an advantage. Work experience in the judiciary, international organisations, law firms, technology companies, and governmental agencies will likewise be an advantage. We are looking for highly motivated and talented scholars who work in any field of law and utilise a variety of research methodologies. Subject areas of particular interest include the following: Arbitration Law Common Law Private Law (especially Contract and Tort) All areas of Commercial law Comparative Asian Law (with particular focus on Chinese or Indonesian Law) Constitutional and Administrative Law Corporate and Securities Law Criminal Law Evidence and Procedure Financial Regulation and Fintech Intellectual Property Law Jurisprudence / Legal Theory and Philosophy Labour / Employment Law Law and Technology (especially in relation to Consumer Law, Competition/Antitrust Law, Cybersecurity, Labour/Employment Law, and Health Law) Public International Law Sustainability and Environmental Law
