Description

The Clerk of the Circuit Court is seeking a Law Librarian to work in collaboration with the Arlington Library Board and prepare the proposed annual library budget. This will include acquisition of library materials and operating expenses reflecting the needs of the library item by item along with anticipated funding. This position will report directly to the Clerk of the Circuit Court or his/her designee.

Specific duties include:

  • Supporting daily operations of the Arlington County Public Law Library;
  • Assisting in providing legal information services to public, self-represented litigants, and attorneys by utilizing communication, research, and organizational skills;
  • Setting up quarterly board meetings in coordination with the Library Board Chair/President and Treasurer;
  • Serving as the staff resource for the Arlington Library Board and the Arlington Bar Association Board and its staff;
  • Cataloging and classifying of library materials;
  • Reviewing, editing and maintaining files;
  • Preparing reports on library and collection use; and
  • Answering phones and working the service desk.

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Technical skills required for legal research using online, catalog, and other computer resources;
  • Proficiency with Westlaw and Lexus Nexis; and
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science or Information Science from an ALA accredited college or university; and
  • Up to three years of experience serving in a Librarian role which includes at least one year of experience as a Law Librarian.
  • Desirables: Preference will be given to applicants with one or more of the following:
  • Extensive experience working primarily with legal resources preferred; and/or
  • Ability to plan, implement and/or coordinate projects.
