Job Description Summary
JOB TITLE: Lawyer - Everyday Banking
LOCATIONS: Chester, Bristol, Cardiff, Leeds, Halifax or Edinburgh
HOURS: Full Time
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites.
This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified lawyer with a minimum of 2 years’ post qualification experience to join the Everyday Banking Legal team. We work hand in hand with the Everyday Banking business, which focuses on UK personal retail bank and savings accounts and related services.
As an Everyday Banking lawyer, your primary focus will be on everyday banking matters. However, you may also be called upon to support other Consumer Legal teams or help deliver centralised Consumer Legal initiatives. As well as giving you broader experience, this flexibility helps us manage the demands on our teams in ever-more agile ways! There will also be opportunities to engage in and influence across the wider range of activities within our Legal & Secretariat community.
Job Description
What would you be getting involved with?
The Everyday Banking Legal team is part of Consumer Legal which sits within the wider Legal & Secretariat Division. Reporting to one of our senior lawyers:
- Your focus will be on the wide range of matters that relate to personal bank and savings accounts .
- You’ll also support transformation projects, assisting in the delivery of changes to products and services.
- You’ll play a key role advising on a wide variety of retail banking initiatives, including new and existing products and services, digital propositions, existing and upcoming law and regulation, adding value to core business areas of the Group.
- You’ll also support new partnerships with third parties that meet our customers’ needs beyond banking, adding value and deepening relationships.
- You’ll offer insightful, high-quality legal expertise and commercial advice to Everyday Banking colleagues and their support areas (including relevant business platform teams) and facilitate the delivery of excellent outcomes for customers and the Group.
- You’ll collaborate with other legal teams and join Consumer Legal and Legal & Secretariat initiatives.

Skills/experience
Ideally, you’ll have knowledge of:
- Retail banking law, general consumer law and FCA principles and rules, including Consumer Duty.
- Payment Services Regulations, Payment Accounts Regulations and other requirements applying to the products and services we support.
- Industry initiatives such as Open Banking and LINK/access to cash arrangements.
If you’re not familiar with all of these but have some relevant expertise, transferable skills and are keen to learn, we’re also happy to hear from you.
