We are a London-based fintech company with a mindful approach to financial services. Operating under a FCA-approved Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license, MADFIN delivers card acquiring tailored for fast-moving, high-growth businesses. Currently we are looking for an In-House Lawyer to join our growing legal function. This is a highly practical role suited to a proactive lawyer who is comfortable working with limited precedent, building processes from scratch, and partnering closely with product, engineering, compliance, and commercial teams. You will play an active role in enabling growth while managing legal and regulatory risk. Responsibilities: Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including customer terms, payment and processing agreements, SaaS agreements, partnerships, vendor contracts, and NDAs Provide legal support for the development, launch, and scaling of FinTech and payment products, including e-money, payment services, and embedded finance solutions Support regulatory and compliance matters under UK law, including PSD2/PSRs, FCA requirements, AML/KYC, and UK GDPR, in collaboration with compliance and risk teams Identify legal and regulatory risks early and provide pragmatic, commercially focused solutions aligned with business objectives Work closely with product, engineering, operations, and commercial teams to ensure legal input is integrated into product design and go-to-market processes Support corporate and governance matters, including share transfers, board materials, and internal policies Monitor legal and regulatory developments affecting the UK FinTech and payments sector and assist with their implementation Manage external counsel efficiently and cost-consciously Build, improve, and maintain contract templates, playbooks, and internal legal processes suitable for a scaling start-up 2–3+ years of relevant legal experience, gained in a law firm and/or an in-house role, ideally with exposure to FinTech, payments, or technology companies Solid grounding in English contract law and experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements Familiarity with UK financial services regulation (e.g. FCA framework, PSD2/PSRs, AML/KYC); deep expertise not required but willingness to learn is essential Start-up mindset: adaptable, resourceful, and comfortable working with ambiguity and changing priorities Strong commercial awareness and ability to balance legal risk with business needs Excellent communication skills Ability to work independently and take ownership of matters from start to finish Fluent in English, both written and spoken Remote work setup Competitive salary based on your experience and contribution Additional paid Wellbeing Days — take time for your personal needs, health check-ups, or simply to recharge Friendly and collaborative team — we value transparency, initiative, and support each other Opportunity to grow together with the company and take on new responsibilities as we scale Startup environment where your voice matters and ideas turn into features fast Gifts from the company for work anniversaries and birthdays — because milestones matter, and we love celebrating them with you!
