An exciting opportunity exists for a junior lawyer to advance their legal career and to obtain valuable experience as a government lawyer in the Workplace and Education Law (WEL) branch of the Legal Division, in the Negligence Litigation and Redress unit (NLR).
The NLR unit manages all litigated and non-litigated negligence claims brought against the department, including personal injury and property damage claims, bullying and historical sexual abuse claims. In addition, this unit is responsible for managing the department’s responses to requests for information about applications for Redress.
Working closely with Principal Lawyers and Managers and Senior Lawyers in the Legal Division, the role will assist in the provision of high quality, timely legal advice often in short timeframes in relation to a wide range of claims (both litigated and non-litigated) made across Victorian government schools. The role will also assist with the department’s response to the National Redress Scheme.
The successful candidate will have legal knowledge of tort law (common law and Wrongs Act) and/or experience in negligence litigation claims including in relation to duty of care and risk management, as well as some understanding of current child safety reporting.
