The OGC is seeking an experienced Lawyer, Property and Construction Law to provide bespoke legal advice to clients within the central portfolios, with a particular focus on supporting University Infrastructure activities and the Sydney Biomedical Accelerator (SBA) project. The SBA will be a state-of-the-art complex that will fast track scientific discovery into better clinical and patient-centred research and healthcare solutions. It is a co-funded partnership project between the NSW Government (NSW Health), Sydney Local Health District (SLHD) and the University of Sydney, due to be operational in 2028. This project is a key priority in the University’s Sydney in 2032 Strategy. Under the guidance of the Senior Lawyer, you will have the unique opportunity to engage closely with University stakeholders and clients within the University Infrastructure portfolio, Strategy portfolio and the dedicated SBA teams. Your key responsibilities will be to: provide strategic legal advice to the University executive, clients and other stakeholders focusing on contracts, property, construction law and the SBA project review, draft and negotiate legal documents including property and construction related agreements and commercialisation transaction documents liaise with the University's collaborators and commercial partners to protect and enhance the University's interests negotiate provisions which promote the University's strategic interests draft correspondence in response to claims, and support with any dispute resolution as required actively partner to share deep institutional knowledge and legal expertise to support strategically aligned decision making, and to optimise operational efficiencies proactively identify actual and potential legal and regulatory risks and provide strategic recommendations for managing identified risks. About you qualifications in law and admission to practice in Australia and hold a current practising certificate approximately 1 - 3 years post admission legal experience demonstrated experience as a legal practitioner within construction and property law (higher education or government is desirable) capability in drafting contracts, advices, memos, policies and/or procedures and other formal written communications relating to construction and property law experience in the conduct of negotiations, dispute resolution, drafting of documents and the provision of advice in these and related areas excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate complex legal issues in verbal and written reports the ability to develop trusted relationships and operate with tact and professionalism across complex internal and external environments a growth mindset and willingness to tackle new challenges and ways of working is essential.
