DEPARTMENT SUMMARY

VFX is delivered across multiple disciplines, channels, clients and products. We create animated characters, full computer-generated product configurators with millions of variations, computer-generated products with AI generated images, photo-real, real-time environments, water simulations, digital twins and much more.
The department includes all the usual computer graphics disciplines from modellers, animators, lighters to pipeline developers and producers, both onshore and offshore, supporting global and local client needs.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong understanding of modelling, UV, displacement and subdivision workflows.
  • Strong understanding of Houdini with an eye for detail
  • Experience with UE a bonus
  • Good eye for composition – each layout should assist the story that needs to be conveyed.
  • Experience with Maya and USD a bonus. Exposure to USD pipeline a plus.
  • Experience with Production tracking software like Kitsu or Shotgrid
  • 3+ years experience in building layouts within 3D environments in a mature pipeline.
  • Organised, diligent & punctual with production communication, deadlines and workflows.
  • Ability to receive and give creative feedback from supervisors and to the team
  • Experience with ML tools would be a bonus

WHAT DOES A ‘LAYOUT LEAD’ DO AT HOGARTH?

A Layout Lead at Hogarth plays a critical role in establishing the visual foundation of a scene, translating storyboards and previs into final compositions, environment staging, and scene assembly. Working closely with Supervisors, and Production, the Layout Lead ensures that narrative intent and pacing are preserved throughout production. They are also responsible for optimizing camera & asset workflows, maintaining scene continuity, and asset QC and preparing shots for downstream departments such as animation, FX, and lighting.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Making templates for translating models to construct environments, vehicles, props, and characters to be used in production with an emphasis on photo-realism, accuracy, detail, and function, execute manual adjustments of parameters to address notes.
  • Manage teams of artists to create hierarchies of assets into component and assemblies of assets.
  • Quality Control: follow QA procedures to ensure the highest quality before release of assets
