JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Layout & Survey Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in field layout and surveying with Leica Total Station, and the ability to support broader construction activities such as project coordination, equipment operation, or concrete formwork. You will conduct precise measurements and assessments of sites and structures, and collaborate with various professionals to ensure project specifications are met.
This role is designed for a versatile individual—layout and surveying will be your core focus, but we’re also looking for someone who can step into project coordination, project management, or in-field construction roles depending on your background.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 3 years of layout and surveying experience in construction
  • Proficiency with Leica Total Station is required
  • Experience with AutoCAD and basic understanding of GIS tools (ArcGIS or similar)
  • Strong skills in data collection, record management, and field documentation
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and site plans
  • Excellent problem-solving and spatial awareness skills
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently in the field
  • Valid G-Class Driver’s License and reliable personal vehicle required to get to/from work and job sites
  • Education in Surveying, Civil Engineering, Geomatics, or a related field is a strong asset
Responsibilities

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES – LAYOUT & SURVEYING

  • Perform accurate layout using Leica Total Station and related software
  • Layout for:
  • Excavation limits and grading
  • Footings and foundation walls
  • Anchor bolt placement and templates
  • Site servicing and underground utilities
  • Conduct land and site surveys to assess boundaries, topography, and existing conditions
  • Interpret and work from architectural, engineering, and site plans
  • Collect and analyze field data using total stations and GPS systems
  • Maintain accurate records, control points, as-builts, and layout files
  • Use CAD and GIS software (AutoCAD, ArcGIS) to prepare layout files and basic drawings
  • Ensure all layout complies with engineering tolerances and construction codes
  • Communicate layout changes or conflicts clearly with site personnel

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES – BASED ON EXPERIENCE

  • Project Coordination/Management: Assist with scheduling, material tracking, and reporting
  • Concrete Field Work: Set forms, assist with layout verification, and help execute structural pours
  • Heavy Equipment Operation: Operate excavators, skid steers, or other site equipment as needed
  • Site Leadership: Collaborate with crews, provide direction on layout strategy and sequencing
