OPPORTUNITY

MacEwan University is seeking a Lead, Athletics Events and Operations for a full-time continuing opportunity with our Griffin Athletics department. Reporting to the Director, you will manage 50-70 game day events each year, along with summer camp programs for Griffins Athletics. Your role includes ensuring full compliance with all relevant policies and regulations. You will lead the recruitment, onboarding, training, supervision, scheduling, and performance evaluation of casual staff, while also overseeing the planning and execution of various departmental events and activities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating and overseeing the implementation of programs, activities and events within the Athletics Event Management Plan;
  • Developing a marketing plan and strategy to encourage participation in varsity game day activities, youth camps, and community activities, including the planning and execution of promotional events and sponsor recognition;
  • Coordinating the effective delivery of athletics events including: setup/take down, logistics, staff training, registration, and scheduling;
  • Ensuring that all Griffins Athletics events meet the requirements of U SPORTS, Canada West and MacEwan University policies and procedures;
  • Maintaining inventory of equipment, supplies, outerwear, and promotional items as appropriate;
  • Creating social media content at events, per the Social Media plan and content calendar;
  • Overseeing the hiring, onboarding, supervision, scheduling, and evaluation of all casual event staff;
  • Completing and reviewing weekly payroll for casual event staff;
  • Developing and overseeing the master event schedule for the Department of Athletics; and
  • Coordinating facility scheduling, bookings and officials for non-conference and league games.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of bachelor’s degree in sports management, business or a related field.
  • Experience with hiring, training and management of staff.
  • Experience with sport-specific stats programs and broadcast technology.
  • Experience hosting athletic events.
  • Experience in a multi-faceted sport facility or university sport is preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Flexibility with time is vital as the position has a non-traditional work week, including long hours.
  • Requirement to lift and carry heavy equipment.
  • Comfortable working in inclement weather and/or noisy environments.
  • The successful incumbent will be required to obtain a Police Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check at their own cost.
