Description

LEAD BOTANIST

RPS is seeking a highly motivated Lead Botanist to join our established Environmental Planning and Assessment (EPA) team in Subiaco. With a specialisation in flora and vegetation field surveys and a strong foundation across floristics, data analysis and report writing, you will work alongside a multidisciplinary group of experts in environment, earth and marine sciences within our Oceans and Environment division.
We proudly contribute botanical services in support of large-scale renewable energy projects, extensive residential and industrial land developments, state-significant transport infrastructure and extractive industries. Our project work spans the breadth of WA bioregions, including the south-west supported by our Margaret River office, Swan Coastal Plain, Wheatbelt, Mid-west, Pilbara and Kimberley. Our project diversity and multi-sectoral approach means that botanical workflows are not concentrated on one industry group and will take you to a variety of parts of WA that most of us would not normally see.

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in Botany, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Natural Resources or related field
  • Between 5 and 15+ years of experience, with a strong focus on field surveys, data analysis and report production
  • Detailed understanding and application of relevant legislation that underpins flora and vegetation projects
  • Advanced knowledge of WA flora, use of taxonomic keys and vegetation community identification
  • Proven field survey techniques and report writing skills
  • Skilled in the application of GIS software and statistical data analysis packages
  • Experience working in remote locations and application of Health and Safey procedures
  • Comprehensive interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Driver’s licence essential, 4wd experience and accreditation well regarded
  • Flexibility to travel essential

  • Delivery of environmental surveys and impact assessments of terrestrial ecosystems, specifically flora and vegetation
