LEAD BUYER - PLASTICS

We are currently in search of a Lead Buyer - Plastics to join our Purchasing department of the Marquardt Group in our location Rochester Hills (USA).
The Lead Buyer is responsible for the execution of all purchasing requirements with a primary focus on ensuring security of supply, reducing costs and developing suppliers for NAFTA production locations

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years related experience. Previous experience with automotive or electronics products preferred
  • Specialized skills in negotiation, financial cost analysis and market analysis
  • Ability to read blueprints and specifications required
  • Strong time and project management, problem solving and continuous improvement skills
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes (stamping, injection molding, casting)
  • Focus on deadlines and target objectives
  • Strong team player, ability to coordinate cross-functional teams
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Advanced knowledge of supplier development and sourcing in a manufacturing environment
  • Previous experience with plastic parts production / molding or electronic switches is preferred
  • SAP ERP experience is preferred
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, CAD files, tooling specifications and electronics material specifications
  • Advanced computer skills, including the use of Windows, email and Microsoft Office
  • Advanced verbal communication skills, including negotiation and influencing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with senior management, supervisors, vendors, and employees
  • Ability to prepare complex written reports and other documents
  • Ability to comprehend complex verbal and written instructions
Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage the plastics supplier base and supply chain for assigned commodities including escalation of quality & logistics issues
  • Lead / support negotiations with suppliers for assigned commodities to achieve the best price, quality, technology and delivery are achieved
  • Lead sourcing decision, in accordance to MSI Purchasing Procedures and work with commodity buyer (regional and global) to leverage best overall landed costs
  • Responsible for VA/VE activities to meet customer targets
  • Responsible for quoting and implementing engineering change MEC, once programs go into production
  • Support purchasing activities for cross-functional product development programs as required
  • Evaluate and assess supplier’s quotations to ensure commercial, technical and quality objectives are achieved
  • Utilize organization-wide purchasing policies and ensure compliance
  • Work with Quality to develop and maintain supplier performance
  • Coordinate the qualification of new suppliers
  • Research new sources of materials, supplies, and services making recommendations to reduce costs and improve quality
  • Maintain all required records of purchases, prices, and deliveries
  • Serve as technical resource in matters related to changing market conditions
  • Support Finance and Global Purchasing activities by providing purchase price variance analysis, performing standard cost review, and facilitating cost of sales activities
  • Participation in cost reduction activities to meet Purchasing targets
