The Red Seal Carpenter / Journeyman – Intermediate Level plays a key role in delivering Catlin’s high-quality custom homes and renovation projects. Working closely with the Site Supervisor and Project Manager, this role involves executing a broad range of carpentry tasks—from framing to finishing—while upholding Catlin’s craftsmanship standards, safety protocols, and project timelines.
This position is ideal for an experienced, licensed carpenter with 5–10 years of post-apprenticeship experience who thrives in a fast-paced, team-driven environment and is eager to continue developing advanced skills under mentorship.
Compensation: $33–$35 per hour based on an 8.5-hour workday, five days per week.
Key Responsibilities Site & Project Execution
- Execute carpentry tasks across all phases of construction, including framing, structural work, finishing, and installations.
- Read and interpret architectural and shop drawings to ensure accuracy in execution.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment—ensuring compliance with OHSA regulations and city/site requirements.
- Operate, maintain, and safeguard Catlin’s tools and equipment (including rentals).
- Complete daily log entries accurately and clock in/out in Buildertrend using the correct task codes.
- Reference Buildertrend and site binders for project-specific details and updates.
- Proactively identify and communicate material, consumable, or equipment needs to the Site Supervisor or Project Manager.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work collaboratively with the site team, subcontractors, architects, inspectors, engineers, and other trades to maintain productivity and quality standards.
- Mentor apprentices and entry-level carpenters by reviewing their work, providing feedback, and supporting performance development.
- Communicate effectively on site regarding health and safety, project updates, and scope changes.
- Address issues or conflicts constructively to maintain a positive work environment.
Craftsmanship & Technical Expertise
- Apply advanced carpentry techniques with a focus on accuracy, efficiency, and problem-solving.
- Install and finish interior and exterior components (trim, cabinetry, stairs, siding, windows, doors, etc.) to manufacturer specifications and building codes.
- Perform foundation, framing, roofing, insulation, and waterproofing tasks in compliance with Ontario Building Code and project specifications.
- Identify and apply correct caulking and sealants for interior/exterior applications.
- Conduct small drywall repairs and finishing as required.
Experience & Competencies
EXPERIENCE:
- Intermediate Level: 5–10 years of licensed or equivalent residential carpentry experience (post-apprenticeship).
SOFT SKILLS:
- Strong problem-solving ability and forward-thinking approach to materials and scheduling.
- Excellent communication skills with an understanding of who needs information, when, and why.
- Ability to mentor apprentices and maintain steady workflow on site.
