UPMC Presbyterian is hiring a Lead Sterile Processing Technician to support night shift (10 PM – 6:30 AM) Monday-Friday. Ready to take your sterile processing skills to the next level? Join UPMC Presbyterian as a Lead Sterile Processing Technician and help ensure every surgical team has what they need- when they need it. This high-impact role puts you at the center of patient safety, surgical success, and team leadership. What You’ll Do: Take charge during nights, rotating weekends, or when leadership is off-site Supervise day-to-day workflow, train new staff, and ensure compliance with critical safety and infection control protocols Scrub, sterilize, assemble, and troubleshoot instrumentation and surgical trays Serve as the go-to liaison between the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) and the OR Drive performance improvement projects and mentor team members Participate in committees, lead professional development, and contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives Champion teamwork, belonging, and a positive, respectful work environment What It Takes: Ability to stand for long periods and lift heavy trays Comfort with repetitive, detail-oriented tasks A strong sense of urgency and ownership Willingness to work every third weekend, select holidays, and occasional on-call hours High School Graduate or equivalent required. Two years of central sterile processing experience required. Previous leadership experience preferred. Annual Project required upon hire. Must complete 10 hours of continuing education to remain qualified as a Central Sterile Technician on an annual basis. Must be able to stand for all shift hours and be able to pick up, push, pull etc. 35 pounds. Responsibilities
This role involves leading the Sterile Processing Department team during night shifts, supervising daily workflow, training new staff, and ensuring strict adherence to safety and infection control protocols.
