Lead Chaplain – Full-Time Location: UPMC Altoona Schedule: Monday–Friday, primarily first shift (flexible start time; occasional other shifts for coverage or special occasions) Job Summary UPMC Altoona is seeking a compassionate and experienced Lead Chaplain to oversee and support the spiritual care department. This full-time role offers a meaningful opportunity to lead a team dedicated to providing emotional and spiritual support to patients, families, and staff. Key Responsibilities: Leadership & Administration: Manage departmental work schedules and assist with payroll Lead or participate in staff trainings and team meetings Support policy and procedure implementation and review Assist with performance management and staff development Spiritual Care Services: Provide spiritual and emotional support to patients, families, and staff Document patient visits and maintain accurate records Lead worship services and spiritual gatherings Share on-call responsibilities with the chaplaincy team Professional Engagement: Participate in department, business unit, or system-wide committees and projects Seek and promote continuing education opportunities Offer expertise in group facilitation and educational initiatives Maintain professional communication and collaboration with staff Why UPMC Altoona? Master's degree in Pastoral Ministry, Theology, Divinity or related counseling field required. 3 years of prior chaplain experience required. 1 year in a hospital/healthcare related field experience required. 2 units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) required. Endorsement from religious denomination. Understanding of health care ministry. Knowledge of religious values and traditions. Ability to work in a multi-cultural setting.
