Lead Cloud Engineer (m/f/d) in Mannheim
Core responsibilities

Cloud Cost Management & Optimization

  • Develop and implement a __cloud cost strategy__ to optimize AWS expenses (e.g., rightsizing, reserved instances, spot instances, FinOps principles)
  • Introduce automated monitoring and reporting tools for cost tracking (e.g., AWS Cost Explorer, CloudHealth, Kubecost)
  • Collaborate with Finance and Procurement to plan and forecast cloud costs

CI/CD & Deployment Automation

  • Own the scalable, secure, and automated CI/CD platform
  • Support application and platform teams in setting up and maintaining deployment pipelines (e.g., using GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, AWS CodePipeline, ArgoCD, Terraform)
  • Implement __best practices for Infrastructure as Code (IaC)__ and Continuous Deployment to accelerate release cycles

Platform Architecture & Scalability

  • Ensure the architecture, availability, scalability, and security of the cloud platform
  • Introduce and enhance observability, logging, and monitoring systems for a robust platform (e.g., using Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, AWS CloudWatch)
  • Ensure security and compliance standards in the cloud environment

Collaboration & Enablement

  • Support all engineering teams in utilizing the cloud platform through best practices, training, and consulting
  • Promote and implement self-service platforms for developers to improve productivity and efficiency
  • Foster a DevOps and automation culture across the company

The skillset we are looking for

  • Extensive experience in __managing__ and optimizing AWS cloud infrastructure with a strong understanding of FinOps principles
  • Deep knowledge of modern CI/CD technologies and expertise in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi)
  • Experience with container technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, EKS, and ECS, along with observability and monitoring solutions
  • Strong understanding of __security__ and compliance requirements in cloud infrastructure
  • Analytical mindset with a focus on efficiency and cost control
  • Strong communication skills to work across interdisciplinary teams
  • Strategic vision to continuously evolve the cloud platform
  • Ability to empower teams rather than creating central bottlenecks
